ICM: Abstracted Light
“I am forever chasing light. Light turns the ordinary into the magical.” ~ Trent Parke
I made my first abstract light photos using ICM over 50 years ago when I was in high school. I regularly revisit this technique to create vibrant and electric abstract art that I add to my ongoing “light art” collection. Using this technique, every image you create is completely unique with no two images ever being the same. In 2021, ICM Photography Magazine published a collection of my abstract light photographs titled “Folding Space” along with an article I wrote about photographic time capsules, the nature of our persistent vision, and the artistic influence I’ve received from my lifetime love of science fiction.
Abstract light photos are incredibly fun to make and serve as an excellent technique for learning the specific camera movements and muscle control needed to create other styles of ICM.
