Monochrome
“Color is descriptive. Black and white is interpretive.” ~ Elliott Erwitt
Black and white photography is the first genre I worked in. I spent many years developing my own film and making my own prints. To see an image appear in a clear tray of liquid was nothing short of magic. I did become weary of the many hours spent alone in the darkroom, and I joyfully welcomed the move to digital black and white imaging.
Like all other digital photography, you can try numerous approaches to creating the image that best conveys your feeling or message about your subject, and you can do it without all the chemicals! Decades after making my first black and white prints, I still enjoy the unique qualities that monochrome images create.
