Uncovering Your Personal Time Capsules

The photographs we make fundamentally capture time in several ways. They preserve our subject as it existed in the moment when we clicked the shutter. When we look back at photographs we’ve made, we can consider how our photographs have also captured our memories of the moment when we created the image.

When looking at an image we may have made decades earlier, we can feel transported back to that moment of creation and recall our surroundings -who was there, the sights, sounds, smells, and all the other sensory-imbued memories of the moment. The images we make also capture who we were at that moment of our motivation and intention to capture and share a scene with others, how we might have felt about the subject, how we saw the world around us, our skill as an artist, and the creative choices we made in what we chose to include or what to exclude in the image.
